Tourism revenue increased by 23.1% in the second quarter

Turkiye’s tourism income increased by 23.1% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $12 billion 975 million 307 thousand.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the tourism statistics for the April-June period of this year.

Accordingly, tourism income in the second quarter of April, May and June increased by 23.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached $12 billion 975 million 307 thousand. 14.5% of tourism income was obtained from citizens residing abroad who visited our country.

Visitors organize their travels with personal or package tours. $9 billion 714 million 687 thousand of the expenditures made in this quarter was personal expenditures and $3 billion 260 million 620 thousand was package tour expenditures.

The number of visitors increased by 17.2%

In the second quarter of 2023, the number of visitors departing from our country increased by 17.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 13 million 995 thousand 495. 12% of the visitors were citizens residing abroad with 1 million 676 thousand 147 people.

The average spend per night of visitors departing from our country in this quarter was $112. The average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was $83.

In this quarter, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, sports, education and cultural expenditures increased by 158.2%, food and beverage expenditures increased by 45.4%, and international transportation expenditures increased by 38.6%.

“Visiting relatives and friends” took the second place with 18.6%, and “shopping” took the third place with 5.1%. Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to our country mostly for the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends” with 69.7%.

Tourism expenditure increased by 67% compared to the same quarter of the previous year

Tourism expenditure, which consists of the expenditures of our citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries, increased by 67% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became $1 billion 766 million 639 thousand. $1 billion 611 million 638 thousand of this was personal and $155 million was package tour expenses.

Citizens visiting abroad increased by 72.7%

The number of citizens visiting abroad in this quarter increased by 72.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 2 million 877 thousand 450 people. Their average expenditure per person was $614.
