ANKARA — Türkiye has removed the customs duty on imports of urea, a key raw material used in fertilizer production, in an effort to prevent rising costs for agricultural producers and help stabilize food prices.
The decision was announced by the Ministry of Trade and published in the Official Gazette as part of an amendment to the country’s Import Regime. Authorities said the measure was taken in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Aim: reduce production costs and protect supply
According to the ministry, the move is intended to reduce cost pressures on farmers and prevent potential increases in food prices. By eliminating customs duties on urea imports, the government aims to ensure supply security in the fertilizer sector and maintain stability in agricultural production.
Urea is one of the most widely used inputs in fertilizer production and plays a critical role in crop cultivation. Changes in its price can directly affect farmers’ production costs and, consequently, food prices in the market.
Government response to market pressures
Officials noted that developments in the region and their possible impact on supply chains were taken into account when introducing the measure. The government said the step was designed to ensure uninterrupted fertilizer supply while protecting producers from cost increases.
The policy is expected to support farmers by lowering input costs and helping maintain stable agricultural production levels across the country.
