Turkiye: Exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 180%

In the January-September period, Turkiye’s exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 180% on an annual basis and reached $420.9 million.

One of the areas where the tension in the relations between Turkiye and Saudi Arabia was felt the most was trade, and exports to this country decreased by 92.2% in 2021 to $186.7 million.

Following the rapprochement between the countries this year, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went to Jeddah with his delegation on April 28-29 at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and held various meetings.

Afterwards, phone calls took place between the leaders of the two countries at different times, and bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed in these meetings.

Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman paid an official visit to Ankara to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on June 22, and after this visit, a comprehensive joint statement was issued for cooperation in many fields.

The declaration emphasized the determination to start a new period of cooperation in bilateral relations, including political, economic, military and security.

As part of Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Turkiye, while the Turkiye-Saudi Arabia Business and Investment Round Table Meeting was held with the participation of Commerce Minister Mehmet Muş, Saudi Arabian Trade Minister Macid bin Abdullah Al Kasabi and Saudi Arabian Minister of Investment Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, it was decided to create a road map to facilitate trade between countries.

The last of the mutual high-level visits was held on September 24 by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati.

He met with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the Al-Salam Palace in Nabati Jeddah.

Exports to Saudi Arabia reached $186.7 million

The effect of mutual visits and rapprochement was also reflected in exports. Turkiye’s exports to this country reached $420.9 million with an increase of 180% in the January-September period. This figure was $186.7 million in the whole last year.

In the 9 months of the year, the most chemicals and products were exported to this country with $73.5 million. The increase in exports in this sector was 47%.

Carpet with chemicals for $44.5 million; mining products with $41 million; machinery and its parts with $32.6 million; $29.1 million ready-to-wear and apparel; It was followed by cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products with $26.6 million.

The export of the electrical and electronics sector is $21.4 million; $15.66 million of furniture, paper and forestry products; the automotive industry was $15.4 million.

Fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 743 thousand%

In the January-September period, there was no export of the ship yacht and services sector last year, while this year the figure was $173.8 thousand.

The sector that increased its exports the most in the 9 months of the year was the fresh fruit and vegetable sector with 742 thousand 637%. Exports in this area increased from $2 thousand to $14 million 873 thousand.

The increase in exports was 11 thousand 177% in the carpet industry, 7 thousand 64% in mining products, 1.361% in fruit and vegetable products, 1,355% in jewelry, and 1.113% in cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products.

913.4% in exports of textiles and raw materials to Saudi Arabia in the January-September period; 482.5% in dried fruits and products; 409.5% in the automotive industry; 381.7% in ready-to-wear and apparel; There was an increase of 343.1% in furniture, paper and forest products.

There was a decline in only 4 sectors in exports to this country. Fisheries and animal products 77.4%, the steel sector, on the other hand, was the two sectors whose exports fell the most with 39.6%.
