Turkiye: Hotel occupancy rates increased by 28% in 2022

According to TUROB data, hotel occupancy rates in Turkiye reached 66.7% in 2022. Istanbul became the cities that increased the overall average in occupancy rates and Antalya in room prices.

The Turkish Hoteliers Association (TUROB) announced that in 2022, hotel occupancy rates in Turkiye reached an average of 66.7% with an increase of 28% compared to the previous year, while Istanbul increased the overall average in occupancy rates and Antalya in room prices.

According to the statement made by the union, the balance sheet of 2022 in the accommodation sector has been determined. While the occupancy rates in Turkiye decreased in December 2022, it reached a remarkable increase throughout the year.

According to the “December 2022 Country Performance Report” prepared by the worldwide data and analysis company STR for TUROB, In December 2022, occupancy rates in Turkiye decreased by 4.6% and became 57.9%, while occupancy rates in the whole of 2022 increased by 28% compared to the previous year and amounted to 66.7%.

In 2022, the average daily cost of rooms sold throughout Turkiye increased by 43% compared to the previous year and reached €117.6, while the revenues per room (RevPAR), which is considered the most important revenue criterion for hotels, increased by 84% to €78.4.

Numbers passed Istanbul in 2019

In Istanbul, monthly occupancy rates in December 2022 decreased by 3.5% compared to December 2021 and became 65.9%. On the other hand, occupancy rates in the January-December 2022 period increased by 36.5% compared to the previous year and rose to 74.7%.

In 2019, the year before the epidemic, this rate was 73.7%. In other words, the pre-epidemic occupancy rate in Istanbul has been exceeded. The average price of rooms sold per day in Istanbul increased by 49% compared to 2021, reaching €136.8. In 2021, this amount was €91.8. Revenues per room (RevPAR), which is considered the most important revenue criterion for hotels, reached €102.2. In 2021, this amount was €50.2.

Antalya, Anatolia and Europe

In the January-December 2022 period in Antalya, occupancy rates increased by 22% to 62.3%, the average daily price of rooms sold increased by 20% to €144.1, and the income per room increased by 46% to €89.7.

In the same period, the average of Anatolian hotels excluding Istanbul and Antalya was 53.8% in occupancy, €47.3 in daily room sales, and €25.4 in revenue per room.

In 2022, the average occupancy rate for European destinations was 64.6%, the room price was €132.3, and the income per room was €85.4.
