Turkiye is on its way to become the champion in tangerine exports

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association President Hayrettin Ucak stated that they aim to earn $650 million in exchange for 1 million tons of tangerine exports to the country in 2022.

According to the statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, a harvest program was organized in Gümüldür, one of the centers of satsuma, the most preferred type of tangerine in exports, by the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association.

Hayrettin Plank, whose views were included in the statement, stated that in the fruit and vegetable exports from Turkiye in 2021, tangerines became the export champion with an amount of $453 million.

SATSUMA TANGERINE

Noting that $140 million of mandarin exports are obtained from satsuma tangerine exports, Ucak emphasized that 5 out of every 100 tangerines produced in the world come from Turkiye.

Emphasizing that İzmir’s satsuma tangerine yield was 175 thousand tons, Ucak said:

“I wish the best season for our country, our producers and exporters in tangerine, which is the most exported product among fresh fruit and vegetable products. Our country ranks third after China and Spain in tangerine production. We are again in the third place in exports after China and South Africa. As Turkiye, we exported 930 thousand tons and $453 million to 72 countries in 2021. We exported 58% of the tangerines we produced. These figures reveal how important the tangerine is for our country. Our goal in tangerine exports in 2022 is to bring in $650 million in foreign currency for 1 million tons.”
