‘Green cement’ to be encouraged in public procurement contracts

According to the statement from the ministry, the High Council of Science has initiated a study to promote the use of low-carbon emission green cement in public procurement contracts.

Accordingly, measures will be taken to reduce the carbon emissions of building materials to the lowest levels and to promote the use of green cement with the Circular on the Widespread Use of Low Carbon Emission Green Cement in Public Procurement Contracts published by the ministry.

This decision will also contribute to Turkey fulfilling its obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

In the new period, the use of green cement with lower clinker content and carbon emissions, which stands out with its environmental impacts, technical superiority, and cost advantages, will be encouraged in public procurement contracts. This will lead to the widespread use of green cement.

“We are transitioning to the era of green cement in all construction activities” Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they continue to implement innovative practices for the 2053 Net Zero Emission and Green Development goals set forth by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Özhaseki noted that a new step has been taken in the construction sector, stating:

“From now on, we are transitioning to the era of green cement in all types of construction activities such as residential, commercial, and social facilities. Environmentally friendly and energy-efficient green cements will minimize carbon emissions during construction. With nature-friendly green cements, we will take a strong and sustainable step towards our goal of 2053 Net Zero Emission. As the ministry, we will continue our efforts in all areas to implement all innovative practices and work towards a cleaner and greener Turkey.”
