Turkiye: New regulation on Turkish Straits

The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs will request an insurance confirmation letter from 6 February from ships carrying petroleum products that will pass through the straits.

The insurance confirmation letter required for crude oil tankers passing through the straits will also be requested for ships carrying petroleum products.

In the written statement made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, it was stated that ships carrying petroleum products that will pass through the Turkish Straits should receive a letter from insurance companies stating that the ship’s details, cargo and voyage will be included and that the P&I insurance will be valid and comprehensive for this ship, voyage and cargo, and that they should add this document to the Sailing Plan.

It has been reported that the insurance confirmation letter will be requested from February 6th.
