Turkiye’s table olive exports this season reached the highest figure in history with 110 thousand tons. The amount of foreign currency obtained from table olives, on the other hand, increased by 15% and reached $173 million.

According to the statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), the 2021-2022 table olive export season has been completed as of September 30, 2022.

Compared to the previous season, exports increased by 24% to 110 thousand tons. The amount of foreign currency obtained from table olives, on the other hand, increased by 15% and reached $173 million.

Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association Chairman of the Board Davut Er, whose views are included in the statement, stated that black olive exports increased by 19% compared to the previous season and reached 80 thousand tons in the 2021-2022 season.

Stating that the amount of foreign currency obtained from black olive exports reached $125 million with an increase of 10%, Er said, “Our increase rates in green olive exports were much more pleasing. While our green olive export was 21 thousand tons last season, it increased to 30 thousand tons this season. The export revenue of green olives increased by 35% to $48 million.”

Expressing that they had a good season, Er said, “We are proud to surpass the record of 91 thousand 122 tons in the 2018-2019 season.”

Olive oil exports also increased

Emphasizing that they left behind the 11-month period in the olive oil export season, Davut Er said:

“Our olive oil exports increased from 40 thousand tons to 52 thousand tons with an increase of 28% on the basis of quantity. The export amount reached $180 million with an increase of 44%. Our olive oil, which we define as golden liquid, was exported with a value of 13% in dollar terms this season. Our average kilogram export price increased from $3.03 to $3.44. In this period, we have realized approximately 60% of our 52 thousand tons of olive oil exports in packaging. We consider this as a very positive development for our industry. Our pomace exports, on the other hand, reached $22 million with an increase of 168%. The total exports of our industry increased by 32% from $282 million to $373 million. We are leaving behind a successful season with our exports running to $400 million.”

The target is $500 million

Davut Er stated that they expect a better harvest in terms of both quality and quantity compared to last year if the weather conditions and precipitation are suitable in the new season.

Noting that there are predictions that the yields will remain low in Spain and Italy due to global warming, Er said, “We think that we can turn this situation into an opportunity for our exports and we aim to increase our exports to $500 million for the next season.”
