Turkiye: Record exports from ready-to-wear and apparel

The ready-to-wear and apparel industry achieved the highest January-November period exports of all time with an export of $19 billion 501 million.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 1.9% in November compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to $21.9 billion. Thus, the highest November exports have been reached so far.

In January-November 2022, exports increased by 13.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching $231.2 billion. Annualized export value exceeded $253.4 billion.

The ready-made clothing and apparel industry, which realized exports of $1 billion 729 million in November 2021, made $1 billion 635 million in exports in the same period of this year with a decrease of 5.4%.

The ready-to-wear and apparel industry realized exports of $19 billion 501 million in January-November 2022, with an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the sector reached the highest January-November period exports of all time.

A portion of $1.1 billion of the sector’s exports last month was made from Istanbul. Istanbul was followed by Izmir with $113 million and Bursa with $104 million.

Of the $19.5 billion export of the sector in the January-November period of this year, $13.5 billion was made from Istanbul, $1.6 billion from Bursa and $1.3 billion from Izmir.

Most export to Germany

In the ready-to-wear and apparel sector, Germany was the country with the highest export sales last month, with $268 million. Germany was followed by Spain with $175 million and the United Kingdom with $131 million.

In the January-November period, the sector exported $3.3 billion to Germany, $2.5 billion to Spain and $1.9 billion to the United Kingdom.

Looking at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month, EU countries ranked first with $920 million, the Commonwealth of Independent States took the second place with $200 million and other European countries took the third place with $188 billion.

In the 11 months of this year, $12 billion were exported to EU countries, $2.5 billion to other European countries and $1.6 billion to Middle East countries.

According to TIM data, the ready-made clothing and apparel industry, which exported to 181 countries and regions last month, received a 7.5% share of the country’s total exports in the same period.

Exporting to 214 countries and regions in the 11 months of this year, the sector had a share of 8.4% in the country’s total exports.
