Turkiye: Record exports from the textile and raw materials sector in 2022

The textile and raw materials sector achieved the highest annual export of all time with an export of $10 billion 359 million in 2022.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 3.1% in December 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year, and amounted to $23 billion. Thus, the highest December exports have been reached so far.

In January-December 2022, exports increased by 12.9% compared to the same period of 2021, reaching $254.2 billion.

The textile and raw materials sector, which exported approximately $932 million in December 2021, realized an export of $798.6 million in December 2022 with a decrease of 14.3%.

In January-December 2022, the sector achieved an export of $10 billion 359 million with an increase of 2.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the textile and raw materials sector reached the highest annual export of all time.

A portion of $349 million of the sector’s exports in December 2022 was made from Istanbul. Istanbul was followed by Gaziantep with $125 million and Bursa with $104 million.

In January-December 2022, $4 billion 322 million of the sector’s exports of $10.4 billion were realized from Istanbul, $1.7 billion from Gaziantep and $1.3 billion from Bursa.

The sector made the most export to Italy

Last month, Italy was the country with the highest export volume in the sector, with $52 million. Italy was followed by Belarus with $50 million and the USA with $44 million.

In the January-December 2022 period, $970 million were sold to Italy, $548 million to the USA and $513 million to Belarus.

Looking at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month, EU countries ranked first with $275 million, the Commonwealth of Independent States ranked second with $145 million and African countries ranked third with $98 million.

In 2022, exports of $4 billion 134 million to EU countries, $1.6 billion to Commonwealth of Independent States and $1.3 billion to African countries were realized by the sector.

According to TIM data, the sector, which exports to 170 countries and regions in December 2022, received a 3.5% share of the country’s total exports in the same period.

In the whole of 2022, the sector made foreign sales to 197 countries and regions, while the share of the sector in the country’s total exports was 4.1% in the same period.
