ANKARA — Türkiye recorded its highest-ever monthly electricity generation from solar energy in June, producing 4.99 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity from solar power plants, according to data released by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The milestone marks a new all-time high for solar electricity generation in the country.
Solar energy accounted for 16.4% of Türkiye’s total electricity production during the month, while overall electricity generation reached 30.35 billion kWh, the highest level ever recorded for the month of June.
The ministry also reported record output from renewable and domestic energy sources. Electricity generation from renewable resources climbed to 20.65 billion kWh, while power generated from domestic energy sources reached 24.22 billion kWh—both the highest monthly figures recorded since 2000.
Hydropower remained the country’s largest source of electricity, generating 10.54 billion kWh, or 34.7% of total production in June. The strong performance across renewable energy sources reflects Türkiye’s continued investment in expanding clean energy capacity and reducing dependence on imported fuels.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the record underscores the rapid growth of Türkiye’s renewable energy sector, driven by increasing installed solar capacity and favorable seasonal conditions. He noted that the country’s long-term energy strategy continues to prioritize domestic and renewable resources to strengthen energy security and support sustainable economic growth.
The latest figures reinforce Türkiye’s ongoing transition toward cleaner energy, with solar power playing an increasingly significant role in the national electricity mix as new renewable energy projects come online across the country.
