ISTANBUL — Türkiye’s electricity generation from solar power reached an all-time monthly high of 5.37 billion kilowatt-hours in July, while generation from domestic and renewable sources also hit record levels.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Türkiye generated a total of 34.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in July.
Hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) accounted for the largest share of electricity generation during the month, at 26.2%, producing 9.07 billion kilowatt-hours.
Solar power hits new monthly record
Solar electricity generation, which had reached a then-record 4.99 billion kilowatt-hours in June, broke another record in July.
Generation from solar power totaled 5.37 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 15.5% of Türkiye’s total electricity generation in July.
Domestic sources account for 71.5% of generation
Electricity generation from renewable sources reached 20.14 billion kilowatt-hours in July, representing 58.2% of total generation.
Generation based on domestic energy sources also reached an all-time monthly high of 24.75 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 71.5% of total electricity production.
Daily records set in solar and wind power
Türkiye also recorded all-time daily generation highs in both solar and wind power during July.
Solar power generation reached a record 189,680 megawatt-hours on July 19, the highest daily level ever recorded.
Wind power plants generated a total of 4.16 billion kilowatt-hours during July. On July 30, wind generation reached 265,512 megawatt-hours, setting a new daily record.
Renewable generation reaches record levels in first seven months
Between January 1 and July 31, Türkiye generated:
- 66.1 billion kWh from hydropower
- 25.6 billion kWh from wind power
- 24.6 billion kWh from solar power
Each of these figures represented the highest generation levels recorded for the corresponding January-July period since 2000.
During the first seven months of the year, electricity generation from domestic sources reached 156 billion kWh, accounting for 73.9% of total generation.
Renewable energy sources generated 128.8 billion kWh over the same period, representing 61% of total electricity production. Both figures were the highest levels recorded for the same period since 2000.
Bayraktar: “The transformation of our energy system continues”
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the latest figures demonstrate that Türkiye’s transition toward domestic and renewable energy sources is continuing at full pace.
Bayraktar said Türkiye had achieved a “historic double record” in July, with electricity generation from domestic sources reaching 24.75 billion kWh and solar generation reaching 5.37 billion kWh, both at their highest monthly levels ever.
He added that the strong momentum in solar power and other domestic energy sources was helping Türkiye move toward its goal of full energy independence.
