Turkiye: Textile exports approached $7 billion in 8 months

The textile and raw materials sector realized a record export of $6 billion 954 million in the January-August period of this year.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 13.1% in August compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to $21.3 billion. Thus, the highest August exports have been reached so far.

In the January-August period of this year, exports increased by 18.3% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $165.7 billion. The annualized export value also exceeded $250.7 billion.

The textile and raw materials sector, which exported more than $828 million in August 2021, achieved $837 million of exports with an increase of 1.1% in the same period of this year.

In January-August 2022, the sector realized an export of $6 billion 954 million with an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, the textile and raw materials sector reached the highest January-August exports of all time.

A portion of $369 million of the sector’s exports last month was made from Istanbul. Istanbul was followed by Gaziantep with $142 million and Bursa with $97 million.

In January-August 2022, $2 billion 828 million of the sector’s exports of approximately $7 billion was realized from Istanbul, more than $1 billion from Gaziantep and $833 million from Bursa.

The sector made the highest export sales to Italy in 8 months.

In the textile and raw materials sector, Italy was the country with the highest export volume last month, with $60 million. Italy was followed by Belarus with $57 million and Spain with $44 million.

In the 8 months of this year, the sector sold $694 million to Italy, $382 million to the USA and $367 million to Spain.

Looking at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month, EU countries ranked first with $310 million, the Commonwealth of Independent States ranked second with $179 million and African countries ranked third with $100 million.

When we look at the exports made to these country groups in 8 months, it is seen that $2 billion 894 million were exported to EU countries, $983 million to the Commonwealth of Independent States and $898 million to African countries.

Exporting to 166 countries and regions in August, the sector received a 3.9% share of the country’s total exports in the same period. In January-August 2022, the sector received a 4.2% share from the country’s total exports in the same period, while exporting to 192 countries and regions.
