Turkiye: The assets of the banking sector exceeded ₺14 trillion in 2022

According to the data of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the total asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by 55.7% as of December 2022 compared to the end of 2021, reaching ₺14 trillion 344.4 billion.

The “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for the period of December 2022 was published by the BRSA.

According to the report, the asset size of the banking sector in December amounted to ₺14 trillion 344 billion 402 million. While the total assets of the sector increased by ₺5 trillion 128 billion 939 million compared to the end of 2021, the proportional equivalent of this was 55.7%.

Compared to the end of 2021 in December, loans, the largest asset item of the sector, increased by 54.7% to ₺7 trillion 580 billion 668 million, and the total securities increased by 60.5% to ₺2 trillion 370 billion 22 million. In this period, the NPL ratio of loans stood at 2.10%.

Deposits, which are the largest source of funds among banks’ resources, increased by 67.1% in December compared to the end of 2021 and rose to ₺8 trillion 861 billion 858 million.

In the same period, the total equity reached ₺1 trillion 407 billion 74 million with an increase of 97.1%. As of the end of December, the sector’s net profit for the period was ₺433 billion 457 million, and the capital adequacy standard ratio was 19.46%.
