Turkiye: The excise tax base limit of electric vehicles has been increased

According to the SCT base regulation, the SCT base of electric vehicles whose engine power does not exceed 160 Kilowatts (kW) has been increased from ₺700 thousand to ₺1.25 million.

Electric cars, which are seen as the future of the automotive industry, continue to become more popular with each passing day. Although we are still behind compared to the variety of electric cars abroad, many electric car models are officially sold in our country.

According to new information in the Official Gazette, the excise tax base limit of electric vehicles has been increased. According to the SCT base regulation, the SCT base of electric vehicles whose engine power does not exceed 160 Kilowatts (kW) has been increased from ₺700 thousand to ₺1.25 million.

The excise tax base of electric vehicles with an engine power of more than 160 Kilowatts (kW) was ₺1.35 million. As a reminder, the SCT base of vehicles with an engine power of more than 160 Kilowatts (kW) was ₺750 thousand. There was no change in the tax rates applied for electric vehicles.

The tax rates of electric vehicles with an engine power not exceeding 160 Kilowatts (kW) are between 10% and 40%, and the tax rates of electric vehicles with an engine power of more than 160 kilowatts (kW) are between 50% and 60%.

Additional customs duty for electric cars from China

Another important change is about electric cars coming from China to our country. According to the information shared in the Official Gazette, an additional 40% customs tax will be applied to electric vehicles produced in China. As a reminder, China has quickly become one of the strongest players in the electric car market. The highlight of electric cars produced in China is the affordable prices they offer.
