Turkiye: The target of $10 billion in health tourism has been exceeded

International Antalya Health Tourism and Education Association (UASTED) President Mehmet Kanpolat stated that Turkiye has achieved a significant success in health tourism and said, “Our 2023 health tourism revenue target was $10 billion. We are far above our target, we have already passed $10 billion.”

“Turkiye European Medical Tourism Antalya (TEMET-2022) Fair” will be organized by UASTED with the support of some associations from Antalya, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Elazig and Diyarbakir to increase health tourism mobility between Turkiye and European countries.

Participation is expected from 50 countries

It is expected that around 550 procurement committees operating in the field of health tourism from 50 countries will attend the fair, which will be held between October 31st and November 2nd.

At the fair, procurement committees will hold bilateral meetings, sign cooperation protocols, and examine the infrastructure of public, university and private hospitals.

UASTED President Kanpolat said that health tourism gained serious momentum especially after the epidemic, and the world had the opportunity to see Turkiye’s strong health infrastructure.

Pointing out the importance of TEMET-2022 in order to provide health tourism mobility between Turkiye and European countries, to improve service, promotion and international cooperation, Kanpolat emphasized that they will introduce Turkiye’s strong health infrastructure to the world countries, especially European countries.

Drawing attention to the importance of the European market in health tourism, Kanpolat said, “The EU is the leading country we target for health tourism. We are developing our international cooperation with these countries as well. We have proven the strength of our health infrastructure during the epidemic period. Now, European countries have started to flock to us.”

“This is an industry where 10 billion people travel for health”

Reminding that the annual return of health tourism in the world is over $100 billion, Kanpolat said:

“It is a sector where 10 billion people travel for health. We were in the last place when health tourism started to be talked about. Our 2023 health tourism income target was $10 billion. We are far above our 2023 target, we have already exceeded $10 billion. We have achieved significant success in health tourism in the last few years, the world knows that our health infrastructure is strong. Patients who could not find healing in their country now come to Turkiye for treatment. We used to hear the news that celebrities and the sports community had surgery abroad, this has been reversed. Health tourism will become a world brand in two or three years.”

“Turks are weakening the world”

Stating that Antalya and Istanbul are great centers in health, Kanpolat said that there are slogans abroad saying “Turks are weakening the world” because they are very good at bariatric surgery.

Kanpolat said that they are working to make Turkiye, which is very preferred for aesthetics, dental treatment and hair transplantation, more preferred in bone marrow and organ transplantation, cardiovascular surgery operations, which are also described as group A.
