Türkiye’s Privatization Administration has announced plans to privatize the Dereiçi Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) located in the eastern province of Kars, along with several associated real estate assets.
According to an official notice published in the Official Gazette, the facility—currently owned by Electricity Generation Corporation (EÜAŞ)—will be privatized through a transfer of operating rights, with the plant and its related properties offered as a single package to investors.
Tender Process Launched
The privatization will be carried out via a multi-stage tender process. Interested bidders will first submit sealed proposals, followed by negotiations. The process will conclude with an open auction among shortlisted participants.
The tender specifications document is priced at 50,000 Turkish lira, while a temporary guarantee fee of 1 million lira has been set for participation.
Deadline for Bids
Investors wishing to participate must submit their bids by June 25, 2026, authorities confirmed.
Background and Strategic Importance
The Dereiçi Hydroelectric Power Plant, originally built in 1949, has a relatively small installed capacity but remains part of Türkiye’s renewable energy portfolio.
Officials say the privatization is part of broader efforts to open public energy assets to private investment, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen energy supply capacity. Hydroelectric plants are considered strategically important due to their role in stable and renewable electricity generation.
The move reflects a continuing trend in Türkiye’s energy sector, where public assets are increasingly being transferred to private operators to boost efficiency and attract investment.
