Turkiye: Western Mediterranean exports exceeded $1 billion

Exports from the Western Mediterranean, which includes Antalya, Isparta and Burdur, reached $1 billion 8 million 455 thousand 568 this year.

Umit Mirza Cavusoglu, President of the Western Mediterranean Exporters’ Association (BAIB), made evaluations regarding the region’s exports in a written statement.

Announcing that the region’s exports have exceeded the $1 billion limit, Cavusoglu said, “Our exports have reached $1 billion 8 million 455 thousand 568. 1906 companies from our region exported to 158 countries, contributing to exceeding the $1 billion export figure 2 days earlier compared to the previous year. Despite the economic recession that affected the world, the fact that the Western Mediterranean exporters continued their activities on a global basis gave hope for the future.”

Noting that fresh vegetables and fruits rank first in terms of the sectors to which the most exports are made, Cavusoglu stated that natural stone mining is second, wood and forest products are third, chemicals are fourth, and iron and non-ferrous metals are fifth.

Cavusoglu emphasized that Russia, Germany, China, Ukraine and Romania were the five countries to which the highest exports were made, respectively, between January 1 and May 16.

Underlining that they expect the region’s exports to write new success stories with the end of the economic contraction abroad, Cavusoglu said:

“Despite the war with Russia and Ukraine and global economic adversities, it is important to protect our export figures, to make them sustainable and to make them one of the most important actors of the regional economy. As BAIB, we will continue to work to increase exports even more. In this context, we will carry out training activities in the coming weeks. After the trainings, we will carry out our mission in order to take our companies to foreign marketing activities, conduct business meetings and establish export links.”
