Türkiye’s Agricultural Input Prices Rise in May, TÜİK Data Shows

ANKARA — Türkiye’s Agricultural Input Price Index (Agricultural-IPI) continued its upward trend in May, reflecting higher costs faced by farmers for goods and services used in agricultural production, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

The index increased on a monthly and annual basis, driven by rising prices for key agricultural inputs such as energy, fertilizers, feed, seeds, veterinary services, and machinery-related expenses. The continued increase highlights the cost pressures confronting Türkiye’s agricultural sector despite easing inflation in some other parts of the economy.

TÜİK’s data showed that both goods and services currently consumed in agricultural production and investment-related inputs contributed to the overall rise in the index, although the pace of increase varied across different categories. Input costs remain a key factor influencing farm profitability and food production costs throughout the country.

Higher agricultural input prices are closely watched by producers and policymakers because they can affect future food prices, production decisions, and inflation. Industry analysts note that sustained increases in production costs may continue to put pressure on the agricultural sector unless offset by improvements in productivity or supportive policy measures.
