
BIST 100 surges 5.46% from previous close
Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul was in positive territory at the weekly close, rising 5.46% to 1,952.40 points on Friday amid hopes of a diplomatic push to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Starting the day at 1,883.17 points, the BIST 100 index was up by 101.02 points from Thursday’s close of 1,851.38 points.
The benchmark index posted a decrease of 3.94% this week.
One ounce of gold traded for $1,928.15 by market close, down from $1,967.40 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $94.23 per barrel as of 6.02 p.m. local time (1502GMT), down 1.25% from the previous close.
Oil prices fluctuated widely during the week,spiking to the highest levels seen since 2014.
On Thursday, Brent topped $105 a barrel after Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, which has raised fears of possible supply disruptions.
