Turkiye’s Chicken Meat Production Climbs 12% in May While Egg Output Falls Sharply

Türkiye’s poultry sector saw a continued rise in chicken meat production in May 2025, even as egg production experienced a notable decline, according to the latest data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
In May, chicken meat production reached 241,782 tonnes, marking an 11.7% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of chickens slaughtered also rose by 8.8% year-on-year.

On a monthly basis, chicken meat production grew by 1.8%,up from 237,567 tonnes recorded in April.

In contrast, hen egg production saw a significant drop. May’s output totaled 1 billion 526 million 665 thousand eggs, reflecting a 13.5% decrease compared to May 2024. The decline also continued month-on-month, falling 1.6% from April’s 1 billion 551 million 765 thousand eggs.

Over the January–May period, Türkiye’s poultry sector reported a 14.1% increase in chicken meat production and an 11.0% increase in the number of chickens slaughtered compared to the same five-month period in 2024. However, egg production during this period dropped by 10.5% year-on-year.

Industry analysts note that the steady rise in meat output reflects strong domestic and export demand, while the drop in egg production may be linked to input cost pressures and shifting market dynamics.
