ANKARA — Türkiye’s Competition Board has launched an investigation into 18 companies operating in the plant protection and plant nutrition products markets over allegations involving the exchange of competitively sensitive information.
According to a statement from the Turkish Competition Authority, the investigation aims to determine whether the companies violated the Law on the Protection of Competition by exchanging sensitive commercial information with one another.
Sensitive commercial information under scrutiny
The investigation will examine the potential impact of information exchanges between companies concerning product-specific prices, sales volumes, sales targets, payment terms and discount rates.
The Competition Authority said it would assess whether such information sharing could reduce strategic uncertainty among competitors and potentially facilitate coordination between companies operating in the plant protection and plant nutrition markets.
Plant protection products are designed to protect crops against pests, diseases and other harmful organisms, while plant nutrition products provide essential nutrients and support physiological processes aimed at improving plant health, productivity and yields.

Investigation does not mean wrongdoing has been established
The Competition Board emphasized that the decision to launch an investigation does not mean that the companies have violated the law or that they will necessarily face penalties.
The investigation will determine whether the alleged information-sharing practices constitute a violation of competition law.
