Construction Sector Experiences Rapid Expansion with Notable Increases in Cement and Concrete Production
Turkiye’s construction materials industry experienced a significant growth of 10.9% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2023, according to the May report by the Turkish Construction Material Industrialists Association (Turkiye IMSAD). The report highlighted that construction materials production in March increased by 3.8% year-over-year, contributing to the substantial first-quarter growth.
The construction sector overall grew by 11.1% in the first quarter, marking the fastest growth since the third quarter of 2017, continuing its accelerating trend for six consecutive quarters. Among the 22 sub-sectors analyzed, 16 saw production increases, while 6 experienced declines.
Notably, production surged in several key areas: cement by 26.8%, ready-mix concrete by 26.5%, iron-steel bars and profiles by 24%, and construction glass by 22.4%. However, there were declines in other areas such as ceramic tiles by 23.3%, ceramic sanitary ware by 19.6%, metal structures and components by 15%, iron-steel radiators by 10.8%, and laminated flooring by 11%.
