The export of furniture, paper, and forestry products has soared to $3.2 billion in the first five months of the year, according to the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association. In May alone, the sector achieved $740 million in exports, a significant increase from the $585 million recorded in April.

The sector’s total exports for the first five months reflect an increase of $11 million compared to May 2023. Notably, Iraq leads as the top export destination with $455 million, followed by the United Kingdom at $168 million, and the United States at $156 million. The United States also showed the most substantial growth in export share, rising by 35.25%.

“Conditions are tough, but we are accelerating to meet our target,” says Association President

Erkan Ozkan, President of the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, expressed optimism about reaching their ambitious $8 billion export target. He highlighted the impact of holidays on export activities, particularly the disruptions caused by Eid al-Adha.

“Despite challenging conditions, we are accelerating our efforts to achieve our goals. All our producers and exporters are committed, working tirelessly, and leveraging trade fairs to promote domestic production. We aim to maintain this momentum and end the year on a high note without any setbacks,” said Ozkan.
