According to the statement made by the Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (IHBIR), the exports of the grain industry, which is one of the important items of Turkiye’s exports, continue to increase.

IHBIR announced its export figures for October and 10 months.

While the exports of the grain sector in Turkiye in October reached $1 billion 45 million with an increase of 16.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, exports in the 10-month period (January-October) reached $9 billion 297 million with an increase of 27.3%. IHBIR’s exports in October increased by 27.8% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $261.8 million.

Most exports to the USA

In October, the top 3 countries to which the grain industry exports the most were Iraq, the USA and Syria, respectively, while the top 3 countries to which IHBIR exported the most in October were the USA, Iraq and Algeria, respectively.

In terms of goods groups, the highest export in IHBIR was sugar and sugar products with $62.7 million, while other food preparations took the second place with $52.07 million, and pastry products took the third place with $48.8 million.

In October, the product group to which the grain industry exports the most in Turkiye in general was pastry products with $246.9 million, vegetable oils were in the second place with $205.08 million, and milling products were in the third place with $174.15 million.

Kazım Taycı, Chairman of the Board of IHBIR, whose views were included in the statement, stated that there are Israel, Dubai and Germany fairs in the next period and that the works continue at full speed.

Stating that the exports of the sector are at very good levels both in terms of national diversity and in terms of numerical growth, Tayci stated that they can easily close the year 2022 with $13 billion of exports.

“It is very pleasing that the Grain Corridor is functional again”

Stating that Russia’s decision to withdraw from the Grain Corridor led to an increase in wheat prices by approximately 7.5%, after Russia declared that it would participate in the process and continue, and Ukraine made some commitments, Taycı stated that the tension eased.

“It is very pleasing that the Grain Corridor has become functional again with the initiatives of our President and our diplomats. We are very pleased that the continuity of grain and grain is maintained. It is very pleasing that the prices, which immediately rose as the Grain Corridor came to a standstill, are back to their original state. In the absence of a possible crisis, we think that grain prices will return to normal levels. Turkiye is making a serious effort to keep this Grain Corridor alive on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. This is a serious attempt on behalf of humanity.”

Stating that Turkiye’s and the world’s yields in all cereals, cereals and pulses products are quite positive, Tayci said, “We do not think that there will be a very important problem in terms of supply as of the next one-year period. The drought experienced during the epidemic, the change in the supply chain, logistics costs, etc., all kinds of factors have taken place so that the prices can reach record levels. There is a gradual return to normal, an exit has been made with the Grain Corridor. Our opinion is not upwards, but downwards with small percentages, but above all, we believe that it will maintain its current position.”

Kazim Tayci, Chairman of the Board of IHBIR, stated that the problems of industrial exporters regarding financing continue, and that the expectations for an immediate solution from the authority regarding the issue continue.
