
Türkiye’s jewelry exports skyrocketed by approximately 2.5 times in January compared to the same period last year, reaching $1.16 billion. This significant rise comes at a time when global economic uncertainties continue to shape markets.
Despite ongoing concerns that the global recession-inflation dilemma could negatively impact demand for luxury goods, Türkiye’s jewelry sector maintained its strong export momentum.
According to data compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the country’s total exports in January increased by 5.8% year-over-year, reaching $21.16 billion.
Meanwhile, jewelry exports surged 148.5% compared to January 2024, hitting $1.16 billion—the highest-ever January export figure for the sector.
In January 2023, the industry had recorded $468.3 million in exports.
Moreover, exports in January accounted for 16% of the jewelry sector’s total overseas sales in 2024, highlighting the industry’s rapid growth.
For the entire year of 2023, Türkiye’s jewelry exports totaled $7.46 billion.
Jewelry Sector Accounts for 5.5% of Türkiye’s Total Exports
The jewelry sector’s share of total exports in January stood at 5.5%.
Breaking down the export figures by category:
- $904.5 million from gold jewelry and goldsmith products
- $211.7 million from unprocessed or semi-processed gold
- $29.5 million from silver jewelry and goldsmith products
- $13 million from unprocessed or semi-processed silver
- $1.9 million from precious metal scrap and residues
- $544,400 from cultured pearls, precious and semi-precious stones
- $968,800 from watches and parts coated with precious metals
- $1.1 million from imitation jewelry
- $520,300 from other unprocessed or semi-processed precious metals
- $186,800 from other items made of precious metals
UAE Leads as Türkiye’s Top Jewelry Export Destination
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked as Türkiye’s largest jewelry export market in January, receiving $607.8 million worth of jewelry. Other top destinations included:
- Switzerland – $126.6 million
- United States – $97 million
- Hong Kong – $50.8 million
- Kyrgyzstan – $38.1 million
In terms of value growth, the UAE topped the list, with an increase of $503.1 million in imports from Türkiye. It was followed by:
- Switzerland – Up by $107.2 million
- United States – Up by $48.3 million
- Kyrgyzstan – Up by $32.5 million
- United Kingdom – Up by $25.6 million
Türkiye exported $30.6 million worth of jewelry to the United Kingdom.
Istanbul Dominates Türkiye’s Jewelry Exports
On a provincial level, Istanbul led the country’s jewelry exports in January with $888.8 million in sales.
Other key contributors included:
- Çorum – $271.9 million
- Ankara – $1.8 million
- Izmir – $817,000
- Kahramanmaraş – $262,000
- Adana – $143,000
The continued growth in jewelry exports highlights Türkiye’s expanding role in the global luxury market, defying economic headwinds and strengthening its position in the industry.
