Turkiye’s labor input indices increased by 7% in the first quarter of the year

The employment index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 7% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year.

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the labor force input indices for the January-March period of 2023.

Accordingly, the employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 7% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 4.2% in the industry sector, 16.7% in the construction sector and 7.1% in the trade-service sectors.

Hours worked index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 5.9% in the January-March period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 3.4% in the industrial sector, 15.1% in the construction sector, and 5.9% in the trade-service sectors.

Gross wage-salary index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 119.4% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 114.4% in the industry sector, 136.6% in the construction sector and 120.9% in the trade-service sectors.

The employment index in the aggregate of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 1.2% in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. The index showed an increase of 0.3% in the industrial sector, 5.5% in the construction sector and 1% in the trade-service sectors.

Hours worked index increased by 0.9% compared to the previous quarter in the said period. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index did not change in the industrial sector, it increased by 5% in the construction sector and 0.6% in the trade-service sectors.

Gross wage-salary index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 23.4% in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 21.8% in the industry sector, 25.9% in the construction sector and 24.2% in the trade-service sectors.

Labor cost and hourly earnings index

The hourly labor cost index increased by 125.2% in this period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, it increased by 136.4% in the industry sector, 111.9% in the construction sector and 120.5% in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index in industry, construction and trade-services sectors increased by 107.1% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, it increased by 107.4% in the industry sector, 105.6% in the construction sector and 108.5% in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost excluding earnings index increased by 227% in this period compared to the same quarter of the previous year. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 302.3% in the industry sector, 143% in the construction sector and 188.8% in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost index in industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 29.1% in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. The index recorded an increase of 31.8% in the industrial sector, 22.4% in the construction sector and 28.5% in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index also increased by 22.3% in this period compared to the previous quarter. When the sub-sectors are analyzed, the index increased by 21.7% in the industry sector, 19.9% in the construction sector and 23.4% in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost index excluding the industry, construction and trade-services sectors increased by 64.7% in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter. The index showed an increase of 81.8% in the industrial sector, 34.3% in the construction sector and 56.7% in the trade-service sectors.
