Turkiye’s largest electricity generation companies have been announced

In the MW100 Turkiyr Survey, in which Turkiye’s top 100 electricity producers are determined, Electricity Production Inc. (EUAS) took the top spot with its production capacity of 21 thousand 254 megawatts.

According to the “MW100, Turkiye’s Top 100 Electricity Producers Survey” prepared by the international consultancy company Kearney and the Energy Daily Company, the public institution EUAS continues to dominate the sector.

According to the research conducted according to the installed power of electricity producers as of 31 December 2022, the power plants affiliated to EUAS have an installed capacity of 21 thousand 254 megawatts. This figure corresponds to 20.4% of Turkiye’s total installed generation capacity of 104,136 megawatts. Hydroelectric power plants constitute 13,903 megawatts of the installed power of EUAS, natural gas power plants with 4,735 megawatts, domestic coal power plants with 2,424 megawatts and wind power plants with 17 megawatts.

Among private sector companies, ENKA became the largest company with an installed capacity of 3,969 megawatts. With this figure, ENKA accounted for 3.8% of Turkiye’s total production capacity. Energy Daily and Kearney Turkiye officials, who signed the research, drew attention to the fact that although the installed capacity of ENKA’s natural gas power plants is high, production activities are gradually decreasing due to market conditions.

The third largest electricity producer was Enerjisa with an installed power of 3,727 megawatts. Enerjisa, a partnership of German E.ON and Sabanci Holding, stood out as the company with the most balanced resource distribution among the top three.

Cengiz Energy ranked 4th in the list with an installed power of 3,361 megawatts, and Eren Energy took the 5th place with an installed power of 2,818 megawatts.

Emphasis on renewable energy

Kearney Turkiye Director Onur Okutur, whose views are included in the statement, stated that MW100 reveals the investor profile of the energy sector in detail, “We have seen that Turkiye, which diversifies its energy production portfolio and focuses on domestic and renewable energy sources even in such a year, continues its success story despite all global challenges. With the investments made in 2022, the net capacity increase was over 4%. Turkiye continues to set an example for many countries in terms of both energy security and energy transformation.”

Mehmet Kara, Editor-in-Chief of the Energy Daily Company, also stated that one of the main trends in the world’s agenda is digital transformation, and said:

“Turkiye should also take this factor into account when setting targets in every field. Because it would not be wrong to say ‘whatever does not transform will perish’. Turkiye’s electricity production declined in 2022. So, will electricity production decrease in a growing economy? Of course, it can. Your resource distribution in electricity generation and the change or transformation in the technology you use, the increase in the benefit you get from energy while consuming, that is, your efficient consumption will reduce your total electricity need. So, is there such a situation in Turkiye? We hope there is. For example, even the minimum efficiency standards imposed only on refrigerators provide significant energy savings on a national scale.”
