Istanbul — March 26, 2026
Türkiye’s machinery sector recorded exports of $4.4 billion in the first two months of the year, according to data compiled by the Machinery Exporters’ Association.
Stable Performance Despite High Base Effect
The figures include exports from free zones and indicate that the sector maintained its performance despite a high comparison base from the previous year.
Although the same period last year saw strong growth of around 20%, officials noted that there has been no significant decline in exports this year.
Strong Growth in Key Sub-Sectors
Several machinery segments posted notable increases:
- Construction and mining machinery
- Textile and apparel machinery
- Food industry machinery
Exports in these categories rose by up to 29% in volume and 22% in value, highlighting continued demand in industrial equipment.
Declines in Certain Segments
However, not all segments performed equally well. Exports of:
- Electric motors and generators
- Machine tools
declined by as much as 28% in volume and 25% in value, reflecting weaker demand in some industrial areas.
Impact of Russia Sanctions
Exports to Russia continued to decline due to ongoing sanctions, falling to around $130 million by the end of February.
Industry representatives warned that restrictions on dual-use goods and financial pressures in banking systems have significantly affected trade flows with Russia.
Germany and the U.S. Lead as Top Markets
Germany and the United States remained the largest export destinations, with combined exports reaching approximately $950 million, accounting for 21.5% of total machinery exports.
Global Uncertainty Weighs on Investment
Sector representatives noted that slowing global investments and geopolitical uncertainties continue to shape demand.
The head of the Machinery Exporters’ Association emphasized that sanctions and shifting global trade dynamics are creating distortions in international machinery trade, making market conditions more complex for exporters.
