Türkiye’s Retail Sector Expects ₺120 Billion in Revenue from Ramadan Bayram Shopping, With Food and Clothing Leading the Surge

As the Ramadan Bayram approaches, a significant shopping surge is expected across multiple sectors, particularly in food and clothing. The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandoken, stated, “We anticipate the most activity in the food and clothing sectors during the holiday period, with an expected turnover of ₺100-120 billion.”

Hayati Akbaba, President of the Ankara Garment Manufacturers Association (AGSD), noted that consumers would find more affordable clothing options this holiday season without inflation-driven price hikes.

With only a few days left until the end of Ramadan, stores selling food and clothing items are experiencing heightened shopping excitement. Retailers have completed their final preparations and are ready to welcome customers.

Holiday Shopping Boosts Multiple Sectors

TESK President Bendevi Palandoken emphasized that holidays are crucial for small businesses, as shopping activity significantly increases. He highlighted that family visits and vacation plans drive consumer spending during these periods.

“We observe a rise in demand for dairy products, meat, eggs, legumes, dates, vegetables, fruits, pastirma, sweets, confectionery, and nuts. Recently, there has been noticeable activity across various sectors, from bakeries to supermarkets and butchers to convenience stores,” Palandoken stated.

Clothing and Footwear Sales to Surge

Palandoken pointed out that purchasing new clothes for the holiday remains a strong tradition, leading to increased sales in the clothing and footwear sectors.

He also noted that demand for holiday treats such as chocolates and coffee is expected to rise significantly.

“We foresee the most activity in the food and clothing industries, with an estimated turnover of ₺100-120 billion. We hope this holiday will be prosperous and joyful for both our businesses and citizens. However, due to increased shopping activity, counterfeit and low-quality products may become more widespread. Consumers should be cautious about unusually low-priced items and always check labels, expiration dates, and certifications.”

Rising Sales Momentum This Week

AGSD President Hayati Akbaba emphasized that holidays mark the busiest sales period for retailers. “We expect a sharp increase in sales this week. Due to the season, both summer and winter products will be available together,” he said.

Akbaba reassured consumers that there have not been significant price increases in the new season.

“We noticed signs of rising sales last week, with weekend shopping gaining momentum. This week, we anticipate an even stronger sales surge. Consumers have shown a higher interest in ‘basic’ clothing items this year. This holiday, shoppers will find more affordable prices, and inflation-related price hikes will not be a concern,” he concluded.
