Türkiye’s Terms of Trade Fall by 4 Points as Export and Import Prices Rise

Türkiye’s export unit value index increased by 8.2% year-on-year in July, while the import unit value index rose 12.8%, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

The faster increase in import prices compared with export prices resulted in a deterioration in Türkiye’s terms of trade.

Export Prices Rise 8.2%

The export unit value index increased 8.2% in July compared with the same month of 2025.

By sector, prices rose 6.5% for food, beverages and tobacco, 10% for raw materials excluding fuels, 39.4% for fuels and 6.1% for manufacturing products excluding food, beverages and tobacco.

The import unit value index climbed 12.8% year-on-year in July. Import prices declined 3.3% for food, beverages and tobacco, while increasing 23.7% for fuels, 11.6% for raw materials excluding fuels and 9.1% for manufacturing products excluding food, beverages and tobacco.

Export and Import Volumes Decline

The export volume index fell 4.9% year-on-year in July. While volumes increased 2.9% for food, beverages and tobacco and 6.4% for raw materials excluding fuels, they declined 30.2% for fuels and 4.2% for manufacturing products excluding food, beverages and tobacco.

The import volume index also decreased, falling 6.9% compared with July 2025. Import volumes increased 24.4% for food, beverages and tobacco and 11.3% for raw materials excluding fuels, while declining 8.6% for fuels and 7.7% for manufacturing products excluding food, beverages and tobacco.

Terms of Trade Fall to 91.3

On a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, the export volume index rose 2.7% month-on-month, from 139.6 in June to 143.3 in July.

The seasonally and calendar-adjusted import volume index, meanwhile, fell 8.7% from 125.7 in June to 114.7 in July.

The terms of trade, calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index, stood at 91.3 in July 2026, down from 95.3 in the same month of 2025.

This marked a 4-point decline in Türkiye’s terms of trade, indicating that import prices increased significantly faster than export prices during the period.
