Global Supply Chain Resilience to Top Agenda at High-Stakes Summit
Trade Minister Omer Bolat is set to travel to Italy on Tuesday, July 16, to participate in the G7 Trade Ministers Meeting. The summit, taking place in Villa San Giovanni, will see attendance from G7 member states (USA, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada), the European Union, and invited countries including Turkiye, India, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam. High-level government officials, WTO and OECD directors, and representatives from the G7 business community (B7) are also expected to be present.
The meeting will address pressing global trade issues under the theme of “global supply chain resilience.” Discussions will focus on the challenges and solutions for supply chain disruptions, supply shortages, and inflationary pressures. Key topics will include diversifying supply chains, reforming the multilateral trade system, tackling unfair trade practices, and mitigating risks in global trade.
Minister Bolat is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from Italy, the UK, Japan, Canada, and leaders of international organizations. These discussions will cover bilateral trade and economic relations as well as pressing issues on the multilateral trade system’s agenda.
The G7 forum, which has been guiding global economic policies since 1973, represents approximately 50% of the world economy. The inclusion of Turkiye, a significant trade partner for the G7 economies, underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing current global economic challenges. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had also participated in the G7 Leaders Summit from June 13-15, following an invitation from host Italy.
