The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated $2.7 billion over the next decade to strengthen domestic uranium enrichment capacity, aiming to enhance energy security and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
In a statement, the department said the move aligns with President Donald Trump’s objectives to bolster U.S. energy security and decrease dependence on overseas sources.
The funding will support increased production of low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU), the development of new supply chains, and the expansion of employment opportunities within the nuclear fuel sector.
As part of the uranium enrichment initiative, task orders totaling $2.7 billion were awarded to three companies: American Centrifuge Operating, General Matter, and Orano Federal Services, the DOE said.
