Focus on four AI agents aims to revolutionize learning, teaching, and research in the UAE
The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has launched a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to utilize the power of Microsoft Azure and cloud-based AI. This partnership aims to research and develop prototype AI agents designed to elevate the quality of higher education throughout the UAE, ensuring these technological advancements remain in lockstep with the country’s national priorities.
“The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is committed to strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global hub for innovation and advanced research, in support of a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready nation,” said Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He further noted that alliances like this one with Microsoft demonstrate a dedication to deepening engagement within the scientific research and higher education ecosystem, guaranteeing that the results of innovation and research are tied directly to the nation’s primary objectives.
Targeted AI prototype agents
The initiative centers on the development of four specific prototype agents. The Lifelong Learning and Skills Progression agent assists with navigating careers and identifying in-demand skills and learning pathways. The Faculty Enablement and Course Co-Creation agent supports educators in updating curricula and designing new courses and credentials alongside industry partners. To assist learners, the Student Personalized Learning agent offers tailored support so students can advance at their own individual speed. Finally, the Research Mission Alignment agent bridges the gap between academic research and national missions or real-world problems to enhance overall societal impact.
Under this agreement, MoHESR and Microsoft intend to uncover additional ways to apply Microsoft Azure and cloud AI tools. They plan to adopt a participatory design strategy that involves key stakeholders such as students, faculty, and industry leaders. Furthermore, both parties will investigate technical cooperation in fields like machine learning, data analytics, and general artificial intelligence.
Building a future-ready ecosystem
Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, said, “Agentic AI represents a transformative opportunity for the public sector – especially in education- by enabling dynamic, personalized learning experiences and driving operational efficiencies.” He emphasized that for the UAE, adopting agentic AI in the educational sphere will empower both teachers and students to flourish in a changing world. This move places the nation at the leading edge of international innovation, ensuring future generations are prepared to excel within a knowledge-driven economy.
This joint effort highlights the Ministry’s dedication to creating innovative partnerships with the private sector. By building an interconnected ecosystem, the Ministry aims to provide students with the specific skills necessary to thrive in the future labor market and contribute meaningfully to a knowledge-based national economy.
