
SHANGHAI — Shares of Chinese robotics manufacturer Unitree surged 460% above their initial public offering price on their first trading day on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, reflecting strong investor enthusiasm for the rapidly expanding robotics sector.
Unitree shares traded at 845 yuan ($125.30), compared with the IPO price of 150.80 yuan ($22.30). The stock climbed as high as 1,100 yuan ($163.10) during the session before giving up some of its gains.
The company offered 40.45 million shares in its IPO, pushing its market capitalization to approximately $50 billion following the dramatic debut. The IPO raised around 6.1 billion yuan ($904 million).
IPO Proceeds to Fund Robotics Expansion
Unitree said proceeds from the offering will be used to finance research and development into intelligent robot models and hardware, as well as the development of new products and manufacturing infrastructure.
Founded in 2016 in Hangzhou, Unitree develops quadruped and humanoid robots, along with key components including motors, reducers, sensors and control systems.
The company produced more than 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025, giving it an estimated 32% share of the global humanoid robot market, according to the company. Its revenue reached 1.15 billion yuan ($170 million) in the first half of 2026, representing a 48.5% increase year on year.
Strong Investor Interest in Humanoid Robots
Unitree’s blockbuster debut highlights the growing investor appetite for China’s humanoid robotics industry. Retail demand for the IPO had reportedly exceeded available shares by more than 8,000 times, underscoring expectations for rapid growth in the sector.
The company is among a growing group of Chinese robotics firms seeking to capitalize on advances in artificial intelligence and automation, as humanoid robots move from demonstrations toward commercial applications.
