Turkish Airlines is most used airline by Venezuelans flying to Europe
The Venezuelan government of Nicolas Maduro gave a “tourism license” to the Turkish Airlines (THY), aiming at deepening the commercial activities of the company in Venezuela.
The announcement was made on Monday by Venezuela’s Minister of Tourism Ali Padron, who met earlier in the day with Turkish Airlines’ Regional Manager Cemal Kaya.
“We had a meeting with the Regional Manager of Turkish Airlines, Cemal Caya sic, and we granted a tourism license. We continue to consolidate agreements that support us to increase air connectivity and investment in tourism,” Padron said.
The Ministry of Tourism explains on its website that a tourism license is granted to companies to “operate as a tourist service provider.”
Currently, Turkish Airlines has flights to Venezuela’s major tourist destinations, such as Margarita Island, Los Roques, and Canaima.
Turkish Airlines is also the most used airline by Venezuelans flying to Europe. They usually fly to Istanbul to then go to Madrid, where most Venezuelans in Europe live.
Overall, the license is part of a deeper commitment between the Maduro and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan governments, which have considerably strengthened their commercials ties in the last years.
