3 million 700 thousand sacrificial animals were sold during the Eid al-Adha

Nihat Celik, President of Turkey Breeding Sheep and Goat Breeders Central Union (TUDKIYEB), announced the number of sacrificial animals. Celik said, “A total of 3 million 700 thousand of sacrificial animals, including 2 million 750 thousand sheep and 950 thousand cattle, were sold on Eid al-Adha.” Celik said that due to the fact that citizens prefer to sacrifice by proxy both at home and abroad, the interest in sacrificial markets has decreased, and that the expected high sales have not been achieved, especially in big cities such as Istanbul and Ankara.

Noting that animals were sold more than the population in small cities, Celik said that the breeders who sell their animals in their own cities or nearby make good money. Stating that the high occupation fees and other expenses of the municipalities affected the breeders negatively this year, Celik said that the breeders had to sell close to their costs. Celik noted that the inability of municipalities to provide adequate services in big cities also causes problems for sellers.
