Vodafone Group to invest €20 million in digital education

Vodafone Group aims to reach 16 million students by 2025 with the investment to develop digital skills and support digital education in 13 European countries, in addition to Turkey.

Vodafone Group, under the umbrella of the Vodafone Global Foundation, in order to develop digital skills and support digital education programs, will invest €20 million in the next 5 years in local enterprises in Turkey, Albania, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

According to the Vodafone Turkey Foundation statement, an investment budget was created in addition to the in-kind donation of about €150 million allocated by the Vodafone Group to initiatives related to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) and the €10 million emergency investment made by the Global Vodafone Foundation for Covid-19 in 2020. With this budget, it is aimed to reach 16 million students by 2025.

According to the statement made on the occasion of International Education Day, the programs offered by the Vodafone Foundation in cooperation with various charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will enable people to improve their knowledge and skills in using digital technologies. With these programs, it is aimed to reach millions of primary and secondary school students, as well as those who cannot attend education, employment, and courses, and the elderly.

Nick Land, President of the Vodafone Global Foundation, whose views were included in the statement, said, “As the Vodafone Global Foundation, we have provided quality education to more than 1 million students in Europe and Africa in 30 years. We are happy to support such programs that can have a significant impact on the future of millions of people.”

Vodafone Turkey Foundation President Hasan Suel said:

“As the Vodafone Turkey Foundation, we want a generation that produces, not consumes. With the ‘Coding Tomorrow’ project, which we have been carrying out in cooperation with Habitat Association for 5 years in order to develop digital skills, we aim to encourage our children to write code and become the technology producers of the future. In order to produce technology, it is necessary to learn coding, which is accepted as the language of the digital world.

In our coding training, our children have an idea about programming, work to reveal their creativity, create their own imagination, and produce their own games. We have taught coding to more than 100 thousand children in 81 provinces so far. With our ‘Coding Tomorrow’ project, we are pleased to take part in the investment program of the Global Vodafone Foundation, which aims to support digital education all over the world. We will continue to prepare our children for the digital future under the roof of Vodafone Turkey Foundation.”
