Ciner Group’s WE Soda has acquired U.S.-based Genesis Alkali, making it the world’s largest natural soda ash producer.
Speaking about this major acquisition, WE Soda CEO Alasdair Warren stated, “The acquisition of Alkali is a significant strategic milestone. We are now the largest global producer of soda ash and the only producer that operates with 100% natural production.”
WE Soda, a leading soda ash producer, announced that it has acquired Genesis Alkali, a subsidiary of Genesis Energy. According to the company’s statement, the deal was finalized on Friday, February 28, 2025, with a valuation of $1.425 billion.
The statement emphasized that this acquisition positions WE Soda as the world’s largest soda ash producer, increasing its total annual production capacity to approximately 9.5 million tons. Additionally, it enhances the company’s scale, geographical diversity, customer reach, supply chain infrastructure, and sustainability leadership.

Two Major Production Facilities in Wyoming
According to WE Soda, Genesis Alkali operates two large soda ash production facilities in Wyoming, with a combined annual production capacity of 4.35 million tons.
