Turkiye: Tropical fruit exports exceeded $7 million in the first half of the year

Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters’ Association President Hayrettin Aircraft stated that Turkiye’s tropical fruit exports in the first half of 2022 amounted to $7 million 857 thousand.

In his written statement, Ucak pointed out that Turkiye’s value-added chain is growing every year, adding that the graph in tropical fruit exports has increased especially in recent years.

Noting that tropical fruit exports increased by 225% in the period from 2018 to 2021, Ucak said, “While our tropical fruit exports in Turkiye were $4 million in 2018, 5 million in 2019, $6 million in 2020, we increased our exports to $13 million in 2021 with an 85% jump. We expanded our product range in tropical fruit by adding products such as dragon fruit, passionfruit, carambola, papaya, mango, pineapple, coconut, and blueberry to this path that we started with kiwi and avocado.”

Russia ranks first with kiwi exports

In the first half of 2022, Ucak gave the information that Turkiye realized $7 million 857 thousand of tropical fruit exports and said:

“Our kiwi exports, with Russia in the first place, amounted to $5 million 454 thousand. Our exports of mango, where we achieved the most momentum, increased from $144 thousand to $1 million 126 thousand. The United Kingdom ranks first in our mango exports with $948 thousand. Our blueberry exports, led by Germany, increased from $524 thousand to $761 thousand. While we exported tropical fruits to approximately 60 countries in 2020, we increased this to 83 countries and regions in 2021. We foresee that we can increase our tropical fruit exports to $20 million by the end of 2022.”

Increase in exports to Germany

Stating that Russia and Romania, Turkiye’s main markets for fresh fruit and vegetables, maintain their place in the first semi-tropical fruit exports of 2022, Hayrettin Plane said, “We have an export of $1 million 467 thousand to Russia and $920 thousand to Romania with an increase of 10%. Our exports to the UK increased from $119 thousand to $981 thousand in the six months of 2022 compared to last year. Thus, the UK has become the third country to which we export the most in the first half of 2022. We increased our exports to Germany from $447 thousand to $621 thousand with an increase of 38%. Spain also ranks first in our tropical fruit exports with $553 thousand.”
