Binance TR, Turkey’s leading crypto asset platform, in collaboration with the Women in Technology Association (Wtech), launched the Binance TR Women in Technology Academy on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2023, following the devastating earthquakes in February 2023. The academy aims to provide blockchain, Web 3.0, and crypto asset training to 5,000 women over five years and is steadily progressing toward its goals.
With a focus on supporting young women from earthquake-affected regions and across Turkey, the academy has already benefited nearly 1,000 women from 54 cities through both online and in-person training. The next milestone is to reach 2,025 women by the end of 2025.
In an era of rapid innovation in blockchain and crypto technologies, Binance TR’s program plays a vital role in integrating women of all ages into the sector, helping shape the future of finance and technology. According to UNESCO’s latest Science Report, women represent less than one-third of workers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields, with the figure dropping to 22% in areas like artificial intelligence. This underscores the urgency of initiatives promoting gender equality in tech.
Binance TR strives to make the opportunities offered by crypto and blockchain technologies more accessible to all, promoting financial freedom and inclusion. Through the Women in Technology Academy, the platform is paving the way for women in Turkey to lead in the crypto space and fostering a more inclusive and equitable industry.
Key Statistics Highlighting the Need
The academy’s training sessions reveal the significant demand for such initiatives:
- Participation: 69% of women attended online, while 31% joined in-person training.
- Regional Representation: 27% of participants were from Istanbul, while 40% came from earthquake-affected regions.
- Demographics: 78% of participants were aged 20-29, and 22% were 30 years or older.
- Employment: While 94% of participants were university graduates, 77% were not part of the workforce.
Binance TR’s Vision for Diversity
Harika Eldogan, Marketing Director at Binance Turkey, stated, “Diversity, equality, and humility are core components of our values at Binance TR. Through our partnership with the Women in Technology Association, we prioritize empowering women to break barriers and enhance inclusivity in this rapidly evolving sector.”
Eldogan emphasized the transformative potential of crypto assets, adding, “Cryptocurrencies make financial services more equitable and accessible, offering autonomy to everyone regardless of gender, geography, or background. Initiatives like the Binance TR Women in Technology Academy are crucial in shaping a more inclusive ecosystem.”
Expanding Opportunities for Women in Tech
Zehra Oney, Founding President of the Women in Technology Association, highlighted the academy’s mission:
“We have provided Web 3.0, blockchain, NFT, AI, and crypto training to nearly 1,000 women to date. Following our first physical training in Hatay, we recently held advanced sessions for 150 women in Gaziantep. The high interest and potential among entrepreneurial women and young university students, especially in earthquake regions, excite us. Our experts also support participants in opening digital wallets, guiding them as they take their first steps into the digital world.”
Oney added, “We are determined to make this process more inclusive by collaborating with local governments and organizations. Through our partnership with Binance TR, we will continue organizing more physical events across Anatolia, empowering women to establish a strong presence in the future of finance.”
Building Skills for the Future
The academy provides in-depth training in blockchain, artificial intelligence, NFTs, financial literacy, and cybersecurity, equipping participants with a robust foundation in the crypto and blockchain ecosystem. Additionally, the “Inspiring Women Series” connects participants with female mentors shaping the sector. Success stories from trailblazers like Filiz Abla and Kamile Uray inspire and encourage participants to take active roles in technology and entrepreneurship.
This initiative marks a significant step toward fostering gender diversity and inclusion in the fast-growing blockchain and crypto sectors.
