In 2023, when the Turkish automotive industry broke an all-time record with $35 billion, 90% of the exports were made from Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Ankara and Izmir, which achieved foreign sales of over a billion dollars.
According to the compilation of Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters Association data, the automotive industry, which closed 2022 with exports of $30 billion 995 million 808 thousand, reached the highest export of all time, reaching $35 billion 4 million 230 thousand with an increase of 13% last year.
The automotive industry, which completed last year as the leader of the country’s exports, had a share of 15.8% in Turkiye’s exports.
The number of provinces making billion-dollar exports in the Turkish automotive industry also increased from 5 to 6.
90% of the $35 billion of exports in 2023, exceeding billion dollars, were made from Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Ankara and Izmir.
Automotive exports of Kocaeli, which ranks first, is $8.4 billion
Last year’s automotive exports from Kocaeli, the leader of the sector in foreign sales among provinces, increased by 14.7% compared to 2022, from $7 billion 383 million 521 thousand to $8 billion 466 million.
The foreign sales of Istanbul, which ranks second, increased by 16.3% compared to 2022, reaching $8 billion 457 million 595 thousand from $7 billion 273 million 442 thousand.
Bursa completed the last year with a 7.6% increase in automotive exports compared to 2022. The foreign sales of Bursa, which exported $6 billion 696 million 921 thousand in 2022, were recorded as $7 billion 203 million 753 thousand in 2023.
Sakarya’s automotive exports increased by 19.8%
Exports from Sakarya increased by 19.8% compared to 2022, rising from $4 billion 211 million 632 thousand to $5 billion 45 million 405 thousand.
Last year’s exports from Ankara, which ranks 5th in automotive exports, increased by 21.4% compared to 2022. The capital’s exports, which were $1 billion 216 million 305 thousand in 2022, were recorded as $1 billion 476 million 121 thousand last year.
Izmir, which realized $921 million 543 million in automotive exports in 2022, increased this performance to $1 billion 7 million 689 thousand in 2023, with an increase of 9.3%.
The total automotive exports of Kocaeli, Istanbul, Bursa, Sakarya, Ankara and Izmir, which meet 90% of Turkiye’s automotive exports, was $31 billion 656 million 566 thousand.
Last year, automotive exports worth over $100 million were made from Adana, Aydin, Cankiri, Hatay, Izmir, Kirsehir, Konya, Manisa, Samsun and Tekirdag.
