Aquaculture exports reached $1.4 billion in 10 months

Sinan Kiziltan, Chairman of the Turkish Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Association Sector Board, said that the 2024 target for aquatic products exports, which they expect to rise to $1.7 billion by the end of the year, is $2 billion.

In the statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Association, it was stated that Turkiye’s aquatic products exports amounted to $1 billion 404 million in the 10-month period of 2023, and 68% of this export was made from the Aegean Region.

While sea bass maintained its top place in aquatic products exports with an amount of $435 million, it was reported that sea bream exports were $353 million, salmon exports were $315 million, and trout exports were $96 million.

It was noted that 73% of sea bass and 78% of sea bream were exported fresh, while 74% of salmon exports were frozen.

Sinan Kiziltan, Chairman of the Turkish Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters’ Association Sector Board, whose views were included in the statement, stated that Turkiye exports aquaculture products to more than 100 countries and has become the number one supplier of the European market.

Stating that they process and export fish as fresh, fresh fillet, frozen and frozen fillet according to the demands and consumption habits of the countries, Kiziltan said:

“The Turkish aquaculture industry has increased its exports, which were around $50 million in 2000, approximately 30 times in 23 years. We have the potential to reach $1.7 billion by the end of 2023 and $2 billion in 2024. We are working with all our strength to achieve these goals. With the air cargo option, we are strengthening our position in distant markets, especially in the USA.”
