BESA Holding aims to invest $50 million in renewable energy

BESA Holding plans to make $50 million of renewable energy investments in Afyonkarahisar.

According to the statement made by the company, BESA Holding considers 2024 as a ‘breakthrough year’ in energy and, in this context, aims to establish a solar power plant (SPP), geothermal, wind and biowaste facilities in Afyonkarahisar’s Cay district.

BESA Holding Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Efe Bezci, whose views were included in the statement, noted that one of the most important investments for the future of Turkiye is the investments in the energy sector.

In this context, Bezci stated that they have been continuing their work in the field of renewable energy since 2015 and said, ‘With the work of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, production from renewable energy sources constitutes 54% of the total electricity production. As one of the countries that signed the Paris Climate Agreement, we have an obligation to achieve the decarbonization target by 2053. ‘We all need to take responsibility to make this happen.’

Bezci stated that the old power plants that provide electricity supply have expired and that ensuring supply security can be possible by using renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels.

In this context, Bezci emphasized that they, as a company, decided to focus on energy investments and that they are planning major moves in energy in 2024, and noted that they determined their new production base as Afyonkarahisar’s Cay district.

Bezci stated that they have carried out development work on an area of 420 decares in the district in question and that they are in a position to install a 40 megawatt solar power plant in this area, and said:

‘We plan to use this region as an energy base. We foresee an initial investment of $50 million here. Not only solar power plants but also geothermal, wind and biowaste facilities can be established in this region. We received an exploration license within the scope of the Geothermal Resources and Natural Mineral Waters Law No. 5686. After the geological survey evaluation, we will drill in the wells determined, hot water and pressure will be sought to establish a geothermal power plant in the places where deep drilling is planned, and if the source is reached at temperatures below 90 degrees, we plan to install a greenhouse. We are making preparations to enter the Solar Power Plant tenders within the scope of the Renewable Energy Resource Area Solar Power Plant 5 license competition, which is expected to be announced by the Ministry. Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdohan, attaches great importance to energy studies within the scope of his trip to the USA. We hope to return with good projects from the trip to the USA that I will participate in under their leadership in the coming days.’
