According to data from the Interbank Card Center (BKM), the total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in January increased by 118% compared to the same period last year, reaching 970.1 billion lira.
The BKM released its data for the month of January, revealing significant growth in card payments.
As of January, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 119 million, debit cards amounted to 190.5 million, and prepaid cards stood at 91.1 million. Compared to the same period last year, there was a 17% increase in the number of credit cards, an 11% increase in debit cards, and a remarkable 24% increase in prepaid cards.
The total number of cards in circulation reached 400.6 million, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period last year.
In terms of the total payment amount, credit cards contributed 810.9 billion lira, debit cards 141.1 billion lira, and prepaid cards 18.1 billion lira. The growth rate for payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards was 126%, 78%, and 124%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the total number of payments made, it reached 1.4 billion, showing a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, 796.1 million transactions were made with credit cards, 500.5 million with debit cards, and 106.4 million with prepaid cards. The growth rates for the number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards were 23%, 13%, and 41%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The data highlights the increasing trend in card usage for transactions, reflecting the evolving payment habits of the Turkish population.
