Istanbul Airport became the busiest airport in Europe

Istanbul Airport became the busiest airport in Europe with an average of 1419 daily flights last week.

The European Air Navigation Safety Organization (EUROCONTROL) has published the European Aviation Report for 9 May-15 May.

According to the data, Istanbul Airport, operated by IGA, ranked first among the busiest airports in Europe with an average of 1419 daily flights during this period.

Istanbul Airport was followed by Amsterdam with 1325 daily flights, Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 1310 flights, London Heathrow with 1287 flights and Frankfurt with 1252 flights.

Among the top 10 airports in Europe, only the number of flights at Istanbul and Spain’s Palma de Mallorca Airport was above 2019 levels in 2023.

Istanbul Airport ranked first, increasing the number of daily flights by 24% compared to 2019 and by 20% compared to 2022.

While 29,230 flights were carried out daily across Europe, this figure reached 93% of the 2019 level, which represents the pre-Covid-19 outbreak.

Turkish Airlines (THY) ranked 3rd among the airlines with the most flights in Europe with 1,527 daily flights. Last week, THY’s number of flights was 18% higher than the same period last year, and 17% higher than the same period of 2019.
