In the first half of the year, 327 thousand 423 vehicles were produced in the factories in Kocaeli, one of Turkiye’s most important industrial cities, and 79% of them were sold to the foreign market.
Hosting large companies, Kocaeli is consolidating its leading role in the automotive industry with its impressive production and export performance.
According to the information compiled from the Automotive Industry Association (OSD) data, the number of vehicles produced in the factories in Kocaeli in the January-June period increased by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 327 thousand 423.
In this period, Kocaeli, which brought its daily vehicle production to the peak with 1819 units, realized 43% of Turkiye’s total automotive production, including tractors.
The destination of 258 thousand 841, which corresponds to 79% of the vehicles produced in Ford Otosan, Hyundai Assan and Anadolu Isuzu factories, was abroad.
The share of vehicles produced in Kocaeli and sent abroad, in Turkiye’s general exports, amounting to 516 thousand 121, was 50%. Thus, 50 out of every 100 vehicles exported by Turkiye came out of the factories in the city.
Ford Otosan is the leader in production and export
Ford Otosan has become Turkiye’s leading automotive company with its total production and export figures at its Kocaeli and Eskisehir factories.
The company realized 202 thousand 827 of its total production of 213 thousand 175 units and 154 thousand 253 of its total exports of 157 thousand 695 units at its Golcuk and Yenikoy factories in Kocaeli.
Manufacturing “Custom”, “Transit” and “Courier” models in Kocaeli, Ford Otosan’s total production performance in these models increased by 11% and exports increased by 6% compared to the first half of the previous year.
Hyundai stepped up in production and export
Producing the i10, i20 and Bayon models in its factory in Izmit, Hyundai Assan dropped 121 thousand 731 vehicles from the production line in the first 6 months of the year, and sent 104 thousand 50, which corresponds to about 85%, to abroad.
Anadolu Isuzu also exported 538 of the 2,865 vehicles unloaded from the line. The company’s production performance increased by 24% compared to the first half of last year, and its exports increased by 67%.
