According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for December of last year, Turkey’s natural gas imports increased by 4.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 6 billion 63 million 120 thousand cubic meters.
The report indicates that 3 billion 767 million 670 thousand cubic meters of the imports were through pipelines, and 2 billion 295 million 450 thousand cubic meters were through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. As a result, the total natural gas imports during this period increased by 4.4% to 6 billion 63 million 120 thousand cubic meters.
Russia was the largest contributor to natural gas imports in December of last year with 2 billion 123 million 540 thousand cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 962 million 20 thousand cubic meters and Iran with 781 million 490 thousand cubic meters. Additionally, 1 billion 176 million 770 thousand cubic meters of LNG were imported from the United States during this period.
9% Increase in Gas Consumption in Residences
In December, the total natural gas consumption in the country increased by 0.68% annually, reaching approximately 5 billion 267 million 120 thousand cubic meters.
The natural gas consumption of the industrial sector recorded an increase of 13.7%, reaching 1 billion 206 million 610 thousand cubic meters. On the other hand, natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 35%, reaching 741 million 800 thousand cubic meters.
The natural gas consumption in residences increased by 9% during this period, reaching 2 billion 273 million 960 thousand cubic meters.
Increase in Natural Gas Stock Levels
In December, natural gas stock levels in Turkey increased by 2.02% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 5 billion 442 million cubic meters.
Out of this total, 5 billion 141 million cubic meters are stored in underground storage facilities, and the remaining 300 million cubic meters are in LNG terminals.
