Global air cargo demand increased in September

Global air cargo demand increased by 1.9% in September compared to the same period last year.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced its market analysis including global total cargo demand statistics for September.

Accordingly, global demand measured in cargo ton-kilometers, which continued its moderate growth in September, increased by 0.7% on a monthly basis and 1.9% on an annual basis, but the demand in the sector remained 1.3% below the level before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Despite the growth in demand in September, cargo traffic decreased by 0.6% on a monthly basis.

Cargo capacity, which continues to increase rapidly, increased by 12.1% in September compared to the same period last year. Thus, a double-digit increase in cargo capacity was seen for the third month in a row.

The increase in the international cargo capacity of airlines, especially in Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East, was effective in this increase.
