The heart of the world fishing industry will beat in Turkiye with Fisheries Science Forum starting tomorrow

At the largest Fisheries Science Forum (Fish Forum) of the Mediterranean and Black Sea, which will start tomorrow in Antalya and last for 4 days, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the necessary studies for sustainable and effective fishing will be discussed.

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent, the forum organized within the scope of the United Nations (UN) Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) is the largest scientific meeting on issues related to fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.

The forum, which has the highest participation in the field of aquaculture worldwide, is organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), hosted by the Ministry.

Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, relevant administrative and non-governmental organizations, scientists and fishermen will attend the forum. Participants will express their opinions on ensuring sustainable fishing in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

At the forum, where opportunities and challenges in combating plastic pollution caused by fishing gear at sea will be discussed, the issue of standardization for sustainable and effective fishing will be discussed.

“Scientific studies on environmental issues in the field of fisheries will be evaluated”

Mustafa Altug Atalay, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that issues related to the future of fishing in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea will be discussed at the forum, and said that the event is considered the most important scientific forum on fisheries in the world.

Pointing out that the effects of environmental factors on fishing will be discussed, Atalay said, “The discussions and outputs to be held here will guide the fishing industry in the world. Scientific studies on environmental issues in the field of fisheries will be evaluated. In addition, technological developments in the world will also be discussed.”

Atalay also pointed out that the forum will contribute to the security of aquatic foods and stated that opinions will be expressed in order to make these foods accessible to everyone.

Underlining that more than 500 scientists doing research on fisheries will attend the forum, Atalay added that research organizations and students will also take part in the forum.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli is expected to attend the opening of the forum.
